Review

This comic is just… fun. X-Factor #2 continues with the same vibe as the first issue. There are fun characters with fun interactions getting into fun situations (for the reader at least, if not the characters), and it is all delivered on the page with fun art.

Leah Williams seems in her prime for this issue, as she pulls out everything I’ve enjoyed from her past Marvel books. The dysfunctional but enjoyable team dynamics from X-Tremists meets the likable characters and detail from Amazing Mary Jane with the pure pop culture laughs of Gwenpool Strikes Back. Put together, it makes a comic that is equal part comedy and heart without any difficulty pushing the plot forward. Despite everything in the comic aimed to draw attention, what really shines most is the dynamic Williams brings out of the team. Those moments may range from a heartfelt reunion of siblings to a humorous snark at Daken. Still, they show an understanding of the characters through their strengths and flaws.

David Baldeon’s art and Israel Silvera’s colors match the tone perfectly. His expressions and body language display each character’s personality to enhance the story to allow the dialogue and action to land in a way it would not otherwise. Debuting this issue are also the redesigns for each character, a new look for the team that initially may have left fans cautious. Yet, with the team in action, they work with the modern, novel feel that X-Factor is bringing to Krakoan X-Men.

Final Thoughts

Leah Williams, David Baldeon, and Israel Silva bring their A-game to X-Factor #2. They make a comic that is equal part heart and humor and an all-around pleasure to read.
