FEAR OF A GREEN PLANET! Beast plants the seeds; X-FORCE pulls the weeds. But not if MAN-SLAUGHTER has anything to say about it!
X-Force picks up the pace with the mystery surrounding Terra Verde post-Hellfire Gala. This issue fills in the pieces of what this team has been building toward with some great payoffs for a reveal. Benjamin Percy is very good at bringing quick comedic moments to ease the tension that these characters face. I actually laughed out loud seeing Quentin Quire building a telekinetic catapult to do a fastball special combo with Wolverine.
This artistic team of Cassara, Gill, and Guru-eFX brings everything together so nicely. This dynamic group is able to show the dangers that sea life encounters with big issues. We tend to forget that big threats can also affect animal life as we always see stories through the lens of people. I also love the shades of green used on the different types of man things we see. The colors used make the reader uncomfortable as this threat is unsettling to the characters. I imagine fighting something as scary as man thing wouldn’t be a walk in the park. It’s hard to project an anxious feeling through art yet this creative team does it perfectly in having use connect to the team.
Sage does an amazing job discovering not only multiple Man-Things but what was behind those being affected by the situation. Beast absolutely irritates me whenever he replies to any character on this team, yet he didn’t annoy me as much this issue.
We see a reveal towards the end that leads to the reader and some of the team discovering weapon plus has been behind the multiple sightings of Man Things. I do wonder how the people behind Weapon Plus keep getting the funding for these inhumane projects they do. The government really throws together grants for shady scientific study faster than they would for climate change.
This creative team clearly puts in a lot of work to tell a story for this complicated team. From the small comedic moments to the intricate art we get a fun issue. I'm very curious to see more behind Weapon Plus going forward.
