Aric has his hands full when 2 Armor Hunters come a-knocking looking to kill the former King and take his Shanhara armor for his own. The only problem is his ex-wife Schonn has appeared in her own mysterious black armor, kicking ass and taking names and making things generally super awkward since they ended on bad terms.
The pair hold their own until the Armor Hunters "unleash the Kraken" in the form of a titanic robot named An-Ise that swiftly overpowers the heroes allowing the villainous bounty hunters to maim Schonn and take off to lick their wounds. But the Armor Hunting duo don't leave empty handed: they steal Schonn's wedding ring aka a fragment of Aric's unstoppable armor itself and possibly more than enough power needed for the villains to accomplish their goals.
Review
There’s really not much to be said for this issue, which is not a bad thing. It’s focused is heavily on action, bloody, bloody action. If you need to see a ripped knuckle dragged down brawl done right, this issue has everything you need. The exposition we get is light but impactful, Schonn and Aric clearly have unresolved issues from his time as king of her home planet and their dissolved marriage.
Filler issues are bound to happen they are necessary to move the narrative along, at the end of the day that’s what this was. However when done right there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it as we see here. One of the strong suits of X-O Manowar comics is seeing amazing battles and this issue does not disappoint in the least. The swift ending isn’t forced either and it perfectly prepares the reader to things to go from frying pan to the fire organically.
Final Thoughts
Solid action, great art and keeps us pumped for what comes next. Simple but effective.
