The Loves of Kitty Pryde Countdown

With the wedding soon approaching I thought it would be fun to talk about the love life of Kitty Pryde. I am probably missing a few, but the following are the most notable.

Honorable Mentions:

Rachel Grey

Rachel Grey, formerly Summers, is Kitty Pryde’s teammate and friend. They served in both the X-Men and Excalibur together. Although the two have never had a romance on panel, Chris Claremont has stated he intended the two to be a couple. They appear to be very close in X-Men: The End which is an alternate reality ending of the X-Men where Kitty becomes the president.

Magik

This one seems to be a total ship by fans. Kitty and Illyana are best friends and call each other soulmates. They have the occasional tickle fight. They have never had a romance on panel and Magik hasn’t seemed to show interest in anyone. Readers love to speculate on this one. There’s a ship for everyone.

Cypher

Doug Ramsey and Kitty Pryde have a lot in common. They are both a whiz with electronics and games. They were both highly intelligent teenagers. It seemed that Doug was interested for a bit, but Kitty loved Colossus, and Doug developed a crush on Psylocke. Then, he died (and came back years later).

Iceman

Bobby Drake did briefly date Kitty Pryde. However, she dumped him, and then he came out. The two are still friends and Kitty gave him more responsibility around the school.

The Running Joke: Kitty’s Peters…
Pete Wisdom

Pete Wisdom was a Black Air agent assigned to help Excalibur. Kitty couldn’t stand him at first. He was older, rude, and chain-smoked. So, of course, they got together. They were not able to make it work and broke up before Excalibur ended. They also starred in the mini-series Pryde and Wisdom together.

Ultimate Peter Parker

In the Ultimate Universe, Spider-Man had a short-lived romance with Shadowcat. They were a cute couple, but Spidey still loved Mary Jane, so it was doomed to failure. Then Peter died and was replaced by Miles Morales who Kitty served within the Ultimates.

Peter Quill (Star-Lord)

Peter Quill met Kitty Pryde during The Trial of Jean Grey. The two hit it off and started a long distance relationship through holograms. When Star-Lord got into trouble, Kitty went into space to save him. This led to Quill asking Kitty to marry him. She said yes and ended up joining the Guardians of the Galaxy. They had a rocky yet passionate relationship that ended after the Guardians were stuck on Earth during Civil War II.  They amicably parting ways because Kitty decided to stay on Earth to lead the X-Men and Star-Lord returned to space.

Peter Piotr Rasputin

Kitty Pryde had a crush on Colossus as soon as she met him. The two started dating, but Kitty was still a minor in the story, so Jim Shooter broke the two characters up. They would resume their relationship years later after Kitty was an adult in Joss Whedon’s run. Their relationship ended after Colossus took on the power of the Juggernaut. Kitty and Piotr reunited in X-Men Gold and are about to tie the knot.

The Real Love of Kitty’s Life:
Lockheed

Obviously, there is no romance here, but in my opinion, the greatest relationship in Kitty’s life is with her dragon, Lockheed. They have a solid bond and are fiercely protective of each other. It makes me wish I had a space dragon. Lockheed has been gone for awhile but has recently returned.

So, there you have it, the loves of Kitty Pryde, as filtered through the eyes of a big fan of Kitty.
