Over the years, DC Comics has established some of the best super groups in comics using both their heroes and villains. Now, Comic Watch takes a look into the top 10 DC Comics super groups of all time!
As you may already know, here at Comic Watch we don’t offer one person’s opinion on countdowns. We go to social media and ask our fans directly! With DC Comics upcoming streaming service set to introduce a live-action Teen Titans and Doom Patrol series, we thought it would be a great time to look at some of DC’s best supergroups.
So, we asked our fans. What are the top 10 DC Comics supergroups, heroes or villains, of all time? Check out the results of our poll at Age of DC Comics.

10. Doom Patrol
The Doom Patrol are a team of heroes known as freaks, outcasts, and social misfits. They dedicate their lives to protecting the society that will not accept them. Their leader is a ruthless and manipulative genius known as The Chief, who is possibly responsible for the accidents that gave them powers. The original members included Beast Boy, Elasti-Girl, Mento, Negative Man, and Robotman. The Doom Patrol were created by Arnold Drake, Bruno Premiani, Murray Boltinoff, and Bob Haney, first appearing in My Greatest Adventure #80. (1963)
9. Secret Six
Secret Six is a name that has been used by several teams in the DC Universe. The original version was a group of adventurers blackmailed into working together by their mysterious leader Mockingbird. Villains United introduced a new version of this team entirely consisting of super-villains. This team was put together by Lex Luthor posing as Mockingbird to take down the Secret Society of Super-Villains, and they used the House of Secrets as their base. The original Secret Six was created by E. Nelson Bridwell and Frank Springer, first appearing in Secret Six #1. (1968) The villain team was created by Gail Simone, first appearing in Villains United #1. (2005)
8. Justice Society of America/All-Star Squadron
The Justice Society of America is the original DC Universe super-hero team, premiering during the Golden Age and fighting during World War II as part of the All-Star Squadron. Their founding members were the Atom, Doctor Fate, the Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Hourman, Sandman and the Spectre. Their adventures have continued into the present day through legacy characters and an ongoing tradition of heroism held up through the eras. The Justice Society was created by Sheldon Mayer and Gardner Fox, first appearing in All-Star Comics #3. (1940)
7. Birds of Prey
The Birds of Prey are a team of female super-heroes that go on special missions across the world. They were created by computer expert Oracle and martial artist Black Canary, although their membership has greatly expanded over the years. Originally based in Gotham City’s Clock Tower, they are funded by Batman as an extension to the Batman Family. Their allies and contacts include a worldwide network of heroes organized by Oracle. The Birds of Prey were created by Chuck Dixon, first appearing in Birds of Prey: Black Canary/Oracle #1. (1995)
6. Justice League Dark
Justice League Dark is a branch of the Justice League dedicated to dealing with mystical and supernatural threats. Its founding members include Deadman, John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Shade the Changing Man and Zatanna. The team first appeared in Justice League Dark #1. (2011)
5. The Outsiders
The Outsiders are a black-ops team of super-heroes originally led by Batman. They were formed as his alternative to the Justice League that didn’t require public and political approval for their actions, allowing them more freedom. The original members included Black Lightning, Geo-Force, Halo, Katana, and Metamorpho. The Outsiders were created by Mike W. Barr and Jim Aparo, first appearing in Batman and the Outsiders #1. 4. Legion of Super-Heroes
The Legion of Super-Heroes is a 30th Century inter-galactic team of super-powered young adults. Inspired by the legend of Superboy, they were founded by Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl under the funding of an eccentric millionaire they had saved named R.J. Brande. This cast expands to include dozens of members with a diverse array of powers and personalities. There have been several versions of the team in main continuity because of the constantly changing nature of the future, including the Reboot Legion and the Prime Legion. The Legion of Super-Heroes were created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, first appearing in Adventure Comics #247. (1958)
3. Teen Titans
The Teen Titans are an organization of young vigilantes banded together to fight crime. Beginning as a group of side-kicks looking to distinguish themselves from their mentors, they would go on to expand into a worldwide establishment. Their original founders were Aqualad, Kid Flash, Robin, Speedy and Wonder Girl although their membership would expand greatly over the years. They have also used the names New Teen Titans, New Titans, and the Titans. The Teen Titans were created by Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani, first appearing in Brave and the Bold #54. (1964)
The Titans are a team of heroes consisting of ex-members of the Teen Titans who have matured past being teenagers. The Titans were created by Devin Grayson and Phil Jimenez, first appearing in JLA/Titans #1. (1998)
1. Justice League
The Justice League is the DC Universe’s most powerful and premier superhero team, a strike force comprised of the world’s mightiest heroes. They act as stalwart protectors of sentient life; Earth’s first line of defense against terrestrial, extra-terrestrial, inter-dimensional and supernatural threats. There have been many members over the years and several incarnations of the team, but the original group was founded by Aquaman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Superman, and Wonder Woman. The Justice League of America was created by Julius Schwartz and Gardner Fox during the Silver Age as a spiritual successor to the Golden Age’s Justice Society of America, first appearing in Brave and the Bold #28. (1960)
