Underappreciated Anime Worth Your Time pt. 1

I’ve been very active in the anime community on Instagram and Twitter recently. During that time, I’ve gotten a pretty good picture of what anime gets talked about a lot and what doesn’t, so I wanted to make a small list of my favorite anime that I feel like doesn’t get talked about enough to bring attention to some series that are worth your time.

  1. Dororo – This is a re-adaptation that came out in 2019 of the manga Dororo, which was published in 1967. Dororo already had an adaption that’s called ”Dororo to Hyakkimaru” that was released in 1969. The re-adaption that came out in 2019 is great but was unfortunately somewhat overlooked because of the other popular shows that were airing at the same time. Dororo’s strongest aspect in my opinion is the story. It’s beautiful and it becomes very morally complex which is something I appreciate. It’s definitively worth watching if you haven’t already.
  2. Durarara!! – This show was big when it first came out in 2010, but nowadays I never see anyone talk about it. If you’re new to watching anime you probably haven’t heard much of this show, which is unfortunate. It’s a very entertaining show with great characters, visuals and music. The plot is a bit messy but it’s good regardless. The ”main character” isn’t very interesting but the very interesting side characters make up for that. I found out just recently that this show has multiple seasons but I haven’t watched them yet, so I’m only referring to the first season here. I think the other shows on this list are better than Durarara!! but it’s still a pretty good show that I think deserves to be talked about more.

  3. Dorohedoro – I made a review on Dorohedoro here at Comic Watch a while ago where I praised it a lot (see full review HERE), and I still stand by everything I said. It’s the most unique show I’ve watched and I really think it deserves more attention. The show is grotesque, raw, and doesn’t hold back but it still has a very fun and goofy vibe to it. The characters are great and I actually like the antagonists as much, if not more than the protagonists which is rare but cool. It isn’t a show for everyone but I personally really liked it and I highly recommend giving it a watch.

There are more shows that I want to talk about but in order to keep this article at a reasonable length I’m going to stick to these 3 for now. I hope you found this article useful and give these shows a watch because I really think they deserve it.
