Marvel has revealed additional details and a new variant cover for the upcoming series, Avengers: Twilight. The book, written by Chip Zdarsky with art by Daniel Acuña sees Steve Rogers trying to avenge the future as he fights against a twisted, corrupt version of the once heroic superteam. Not only does the book reveal the dystopian future of these new Avengers (not those New Avengers) but it also spotlights the tragedies that befell the previous generation of heroes.
In an interview with Comicbook.com, writer Chip Zdarsky discussed his approach to the series:
“Steve is the perfect character with which to see a changed future since he’s been through that experience before coming out of WW2. His ethics and morals and outlook have a consistency to them, so seeing how he reacts to a changed America is always interesting, to me at least! And this future America is seemingly perfect, so Steve has to question whether or not to upset what his fellow Americans are comfortable with in pursuit of the truth.”
To highlight the release of the limited series, Acuña will illustrate a foil variant cover featuring an older Captain America, ready for a fight. That cover can be seen below:
