Season 3 of Attack on Titan gets even bigger with even more viewing options, subbed and dubbed and now also extra episodes.
This coming season of Attack on Titan is all set to become the hot ticket of Summer 2018 and thanks to the building hype, fans will also be spoilt for choice with more viewing options than ever before. With the Anime Expo 2018 panel already announcing the Crunchyroll simulcast when it officially premiers on NHK in Japan on July 22, now it has been revealed it will also be available to simulcast on Hulu upon the seasons release. And to top it off there will be an added boost of an extended episode run bringing the episode count closer to the first season. The first episode of the new season has already had a limited run in theaters to the delight of many fans and also premiered during Anime Expo on July 8, where it was also announced that X Japan feat. Hyde from L’Arc En-ciel would perform the opening theme song instead of REVO and Linked Horizon.
Upon release in Japan, the series will again be available in Japanese with English subtitles, as with Crunchyroll. For those who prefer an English dub version, however, the FUNimation simuldub will begin in August. Also, Adult Swim’s Toonami block will comprise an English dub version when that begins airing August 18. The show will also be extended to a full 24 episode run as opposed to season 2 which ran for 12. All of which goes to show that things have come a long way since the first adaptation aired by Wit Studio back in 2013 and FUNmation began releasing the series on North American home video in 2014, which brought it to a much wider audience and began the groundswell of interest we see today.
Originally written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, Attack on Titan began in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Sh?nen Magazine September 9, 2009, and has since been collected into 25 tank?bon volumes as of May 2018. It tells of a world where humanity lives in walled cities to protect them from giant humanoids, referred to as Titans, that eat humans for no apparent reason. The story initially centers around a group of friends comprising of Eren Yeager, Misaka Ackerman, and Armin Arlert, who join the military to fight after their hometown is invaded and Eren loses his mother, who he swears to avenge. However as the truth about the Titans is revealed the focus shifts to also encompass Historia Reiss, squad leader Levi, Eren’s father Grtisha and several other supporting characters. Also following was a spin-off light novel series Before the Fall, which began in December 2011 and has been adapted for manga. And as of May 2018, the manga has 74 million copies in print, making it one of the best selling manga series. With two additional light novel series and four spin-off manga series having also been created there has never been a better time to be a fan.
