Marvel revealed more participants of the upcoming symbiote event, Venom War as Black Widow joins the fight. Starring in the first variant cover for Venom War: Venomous, the tie-in series that spotlights various symbiote users, Black Widow will cross paths with Flash Thompson during their separate investigations of Alchemex. The series is spinning out from Black Widow: Venomous #1, both of which are written by Erica Schultz with art by Luciano Vecchio.
In a recent AIPT interview with Vecchio, the artist spoke about returning to Black Widow:
“I grow very attached to the characters I work with, so my current favorite is definitely Black Widow. We got to revise and tweak her symbiote design, and I used the chance to link some of my favorite eras of her publishing history: Continuing the vibe of her last solo run by Thompson and Casagrande while linking it back to the classic Amazing Spider-Man #86 where Romita introduced her iconic leather jumpsuit. That issue connected Black Widow to the Spidey mythos in a way that we don’t usually think about, and now the Symbiote aspect brings everything full circle, thematically AND visually.”
Along with the announcement, Marvel also shared a look at the main cover for issue #1 by Leirix and the variant illustrated by Derrick Chew. Those covers can be seen below.
