Marvel Studios filled Hall H at San Diego Comic Con with stars today as plans for Phase 4 for the MCU were finally revealed. After a clip video highlighting the past 10 years and thanking fans, Feige mentioned that in the next few days, Avengers: Endgame will officially top Avatar as the highest grossing film of all time. But no time to dwell on that with the frantic schedule Marvel Studies has inbound over the next couple of years! First up, The Eternals was given a release date of November 6th, 2020 and the cast, comprised of Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, along with director Chloe Zhao took the stage.
Next up, the Disney Plus The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was announced for Fall 2020, with stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan on hand.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings received a release date of February 12, 2021 featuring Tony Leung as The Mandarin and the newly cast Simu Liu as Shang-Chi.
WandaVision, also airing on Disney Plus, will release in Spring 2021 and stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany joined Feige on stage where Bettany revealed that the series will take place post-Avengers: Endgame. The series will also feature an adult Monica Rambeau (Captain Marvel/Photon/Spectrum) played by Tiana Terris.
Tom Hiddleston joined Feige onstage to announce Loki, which will also air on Disney Plus in Spring 2021. The series will focus on past Loki after his Tesseract escape in Endgame.
May 7, 2021 will see the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which the director promises will be “the first scary MCU movie.” Benedict Cumberbatch discussed the film and it was revealed that Scarlet Witch will be featured in it and the events of WandaVision will tie directly into the film.
The first Marvel Studios animated Series, What If…? will be released Summer 2021 with all the MCU actors reprising their roles and Jeffrey Wright voicing The Watcher.
The Disney Plus series centering on Hawkeye was discussed as Jeremy Renner sneaked into Hall H through the audience to confirm that the series will feature Kate Bishop and more Ronin.
Thor: Love and Thunder is the title of the upcoming Taika Waititi Thor film, releasing near the end 2021 and will feature Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, the new king of Asgard, in search of a queen. Waititi then went on to mention The Mighty Thor and its first introduction of a female Thor before inviting Natalie Portman to the stage.
Enter the cast and director of Black Widow as Scarlet Johansson discusses the growth of her grasp on the character in these past 10 years. ScarJo introduced the first viewing of the Black Widow trailer. Notably, part of the film will take place in Budapest, the location of an oft-mentioned mystery event in the lives of Black Widow and Hawkeye.
Finally, Feige teased Black Panther 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and Captain Marvel 2 and announced Mahershala Ali being cast as Blade. Feige jokingly said “I didn’t even have time to talk about the Fantastic Four. I didn’t even have time to talk about mutants” before ending the panel.
