Captain Marvel and Choas Walking writers join Sony’s next Spider-man s-off! Less than a week after Spidey fan’s got their first taste of Venom with a teaser trailer, Sony wasted no time and announced it’s moving forward with the next addition to their ‘Spider-Man [Anti-hero] Expanded Universe, Silver & Black, announcing the line up of some more amazing talent.
It has been confirmed that Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet rewrote Gina Prince-Bythewood‘s first draft of Silver & Black, the movie focused on comic book characters Silver Sable and Black Cat. Lindsey Beer has done work on the upcoming adaptation Chaos Walking, starring Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s Tom Holland, while Robertson-Dworet turned in drafts of the new Tomb Raider reboot and the MCU’s Captain Marvel.
Prince-Bythewood, director of The Secret Life of Bees and Beyond the Lights, was hired last year to helm Silver & Black, which will team Black Cat with Silver Sable, another antihero from Marvel’s Spider-Man comics. She’s now doing another polish on what Beer and Robertson-Dworet contributed. The relatively smooth Venom production has been encouraging for the certainty of this project actually happening, and the film is set to similarly shoot in Atlanta sometime this year.
Yet Silver & Black points towards a peculiar future for Sony’s superhero films as rumors still circulate that projects like Venom, Silver & Black, and the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will reportedly have no connection to Holland’s more comic accurate portrayal of Spider-Man introduced in last summer’s Homecoming. This rumor has been squashed by people close to past Holland Spider-Man appearances and they have said that fans can expect to see ‘Tom Holland’s Spider-Man/Peter Parker appear in Venom! Take into consideration, this could be post-credits, or even in brief glimpse of a newspaper article that Tom Hardy’s Venom comes across or it could be more, but Holland will make an appearance, and if it’s taking place in the first of Sony’s Spidey antihero films, its very probable he will make an appearance in Silver & Black as well!
Silver & Black is getting praise for putting together an impressive female team to push the narrative of two strong female characters. ‘In a move that other studios have bungled consistently, Sony has put together a team of female talent to make a movie about female characters. In today’s gaffe-strewn Hollywood landscape, even that bare minimum of accomplishment should be rewarded.‘
Currently, Silver & Black is slated to open February 8th, 2019.
