Marvel announces the new creative team for Captain Marvel, which relaunches this October after the end of Kelly Thompson’s 50 issue run. The upcoming relaunch will see writer Alyssa Wong and artist Jan Bazaldua enter the premiere cosmic hero. For the first issue of this new series, artist Stephen Segovia illustrates the main cover.
Wong discussed taking over the title:
“I’m so excited to be writing Captain Marvel! Carol is such an iconic character with a rich history, and I can’t wait to add to her story. It’s an honor to work with Jan and I hope everyone enjoys what we’ve got coming!”
When Carol Danvers returns to her own title and cover, it will be in a new costume from Jen Bartel. The new suit is based on Captain Marvel’s Hellfire Gala outfit, and Bartel returns to the design to tweak it for high flying adventures. Captain Marvel dons it as she battles an omniversal entity that feels threatened by the hero’s existence. Details are sparse in the press release, but also teases a young hero will have to assist Carol in her battle with the being, which seems to play off threads from the ending of Thompson’s run.
In the press release, Bazaldua talked about working on the series:
“Captain Marvel is one of my favorite female characters, that’s why I’m very excited to draw her. I have always seen her as a very self-confident woman with nothing she cannot face, and not just because she has superpowers, but because she has inner strength. That’s what I really enjoy about her and why I really appreciate this opportunity!”
