Giant-Size X-Men: Thunderbird (2022) #1, written by Steve Orlando and Nyla Rose, with art and costume design by David Cutler, has brought family, humanity, culture and superhero antics to John Proudstar’s character. Last Saturday, Mutant Watch sat with Scott Yar, an autistic, Abanaki/Penobscot creator dedicated to neurodiversity representation in comics, and Travis Hedge Coke, a mixed Native intersex enby writer from North Carolina, creator of Examining New X-Men, to discuss the depths of this story, the new places it brings John’s character, and the significance, personal character story and history behind David Cutler’s new design.
