Image Comics revealed that Chip Zdarsky’s Eisner Award winning series Public Domain is set to return with both a spin-off and new arc this summer. Launching this July, issue #6 continues the adventures of the Dallas family as they work to launch their comic company built around the hit character, The Domain. Now that the company has formed, the hard part comes in the form of actually creating and publishing a new comic. Not without conflict, the owners of the movie and TV rights, Singular Comics, are also working to revamp The Domain in a fit of spite.
In the press release, Zdarsky discussed working on every aspect of the series, stating:
“Public Domain is the most personal work of mine to date, so I’m incredibly happy to be putting more issues of it out into the world again. I’m writing, drawing, coloring, lettering and designing every element of the book, so it’s as pure a form of ‘Chip Zdarsky’ as there can be! Is that a good thing? I’ll let history judge.”
Then, in Public Domain – The Domain, Zdarsky is joined by artist Rachael Stott and colorist Eren Angiolini to tell the in-universe story of The Domain. The pairing reunited Zdarsky and Stott as collaborators, having previously worked on Sex Criminals together, while Aniolini served as the colorist on Zdarsky’s Justice League: Last Ride miniseries.
Image also shared a first look at Zdarsky’s interiors and cover for issue #6.
Public Domain #6 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, July 3. The Domain #1 will be available at comic book shops the following week, on Wednesday, July 10. Both Public Domain and The Domain will also be available across digital platforms.
