Ingress the augmented reality mobile game gets its own anime show and Netflix is taking it worldwide this October.
In March of 2018 Fuji TV announced that they would broadcast the new anime series “Ingress” the animation on its new late-night Ultra+ anime programing block with additional broadcasts by Kansai TV, Tokai TV, Television Nishinippon Corporation, Hokkaido Cultural Broadcasting, BS Fuji, and streamed worldwide by Netflix.
The show will be produced by Tokyo animation house Crafter for Fuji, with Yuhei Sakuragi (Neon Genesis: Impact) directing and acclaimed Takeshi Honda, art director on Neon Genesis Evangelion, designing the characters. Renowned Studio Ghibli and Production I.G. alumni Tomohiko Ishii (Ghost in the Shell 2.0) will produce. Vocal cast for the Japanese version of Ingress: The Animation will feature talents such as Yoshiki Nakajima as Makoto, Reina Ueda as Sarah, Shigeo Kiyama as new character Jack and Megumi Ogata as ADA, an AI entity in the series. No word has been given on the voice casting for any other languages.
“Ingress” the animation is the story of special police investigator Makoto, who has the power to read the memories of objects he touches. While investigating a laboratory explosion that was researching an unknown substance called “XM”, he touches the ring of a woman who was the sole survivor of the explosion and sees a horrifying vision that embroils him in a massive conspiracy.
The Fuji invested Nianti will release the Ingress Prime update for the game that was the forerunner to Pokemon Go, in time with the Netflix series in a smart play to bring this property in all its forms to the world.
