Comic Con Honolulu 2019 Goes Off Without a Hitch

It was another beautiful weekend on O’ahu as the Honolulu Convention Center opened its doors for Comic Con Honolulu 2019. The stars were out all weekend from a variety of mediums, including, of course, the comics industry. A number of brilliant panels emerged from the weekend. Howard Mackie and Tom DeFalco gave tips for how to write comics; Tom Grummett regaled fans with inside stories as one of the architects of “The Death of Superman”; David Mack showed off his incredibly broad body of work; and Mackie and DeFalco were joined by John Romita Jr. and Mark Brooks for an incredible panel on Spider-Man.

But the myriad of industry talent is only one element of a successful convention. Vendor support and fan enthusiasm truly make comic conventions a special time for all involved. From cosplay to rare items and everything in between, Comic Con Honolulu delivered on all fronts. Local shops including Other Realms Ltd and Dragon’s Lair were prominently in attendance. Local vendor Jordan and his wife were present, both selling original art pages but also sharing some of their private collection of first appearance pages with fans. Out of state vendors such as The Seeker’s Eye from Portland were in attendance, selling great books at great prices. Every Piece Salon set up a booth to help fans perfect their hair and makeup for cosplay.  It was a weekend enjoyed by all– young and old alike!

Check out some of my photos from the weekend below (next year, I’m bringing a photographer with me!) and be on the lookout over the next week for a number of exclusive interviews with David Mack, Amy Reeder, Agnes Garbowski, Tom DeFalco, Tom Grummett, Dasha Cosplay, Howard Mackie, and Mark Brooks!
