Comic Legend Dennis O’Neil to be Honored by Jimmy Carter Presidential Library

The Hero Initiative, the first federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need, has announced on their website that writer and editor Dennis O’ Neil will have his life’s work honored and recognized as part of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library in Atlanta’s “Comic Books and Social Justice” weekend to be held on the December 7 and 8 of this year.

O’Neil who is credited as ” the man that helped comics grow up” as his comic scripts of the early 1970s brought to fore many of the social issues of the day including everything from drugs and poverty to racism.

His career has spanned several decades which has included working at both DC and Marvel comics as both writer and editor and saw him partner with the legendary Neil Adams on several projects including what is the most famous Green Arrow story of them all where in Green Lantern #85 and #86  it was revealed that Green Arrow’s ward Speedy was, in fact, a heroin addict.
