Perfect for fans of Sailor Moon and nostalgic magical girl stories, this volume picks up where the previous volume left off: Avalon is in peril and the evil Lady Kale has returned. Only through the power of magic and friendship can Gwen, Fallon, and Tamara save Avalon and restore order to their beloved kingdom.
The book is again written by Jordie Bellaire, the Eisner winning colorist known for her work on Batman, Nice House on The Lake and Vision. Her writing includes her Eisner nominated debut, Redlands and other YA titles Wonder Woman: Young Diana and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Joining Bellaire for this second volume is artist Koi Carreon, a freelance artist from the Philippines, who has contributed variant covers for “Star-Lord“, “Weirdworld“, “Voltron” and “Robotech,” and when not drawing, can be found running around town with his dog.
Carreon said about working on the project:
“I learned a lot working on the first volume. I’m happy that I get to show my improvement and all that I’ve learned for the second one. The whole team did their best for the book, I hope everyone likes it!”
The colorist joining these to is Sarah Davidson, a comic book illustrator and colorist from Savannah, GA currently working on her MFA in Sequential Art. She’s colored the upcoming “Super Boba Cafe” and “SWING” graphic novels and just signed her first OGN book deal with MadCave Studios.
Davidson added:
“Princess Gwenevere is such a bright, fun, magical story, and it brings me so much joy to be part of this project! I love getting to let out my inner “magical girl” when it comes to coloring these books, and it’s wonderful to be on a project that is all about friendship and joy and love. It really warms my heart to read it and work on it
Editor, Lauren Hitzhusen said about the working with the creative team,
“Being back in Avalon with the girls is a dream come true for me. Getting to bring the first volume to life with Jordie, Koi, Sarah, and Chas! was such an incredible experience and the magic of Avalon was really flowing!
This team has really expanded the world of the Jewel Riders, bringing in new ideas and concepts–and even throwing in some fun, deep cut nods to the original series. The magical girl genre has grown and evolved so much in the last thirty years since the show was released, and this team has blended new concepts with the classic world we have come to know from the Jewel Riders.
We can’t wait for you to see what surprises the new volume has in store! Friends together, friends forever!”
Princess Gwenevere & The Jewel Riders Vol. 2 – The Quest for Avalon
When we last saw Gwen and her friends Fallon and Tamara, they had successfully defeated Lady Kale–or so they thought. With Merlin gone, strange things and wild magic outbreaks have begun occurring about the kingdom.
Is Kale still among them? Gwen and her friends must dig deep to find the power within each of them to defeat a new enemy and restore balance to the magic of Avalon. But their friendship is tested in new ways as their responsibilities continue to shift and change.
