Behind the Horror and Death: Nosferatu

The Life and Death of the Brave Captain Suave
The Life and Death of the Brave Captain Suave is a metatextual comic book series about a homeless man living in Cleveland, Ohio that believes he is an actual superhero.
Written by Joseph Sieracki and drawn by Kelly Williams, Captain Suave is a modern take on Don Quixote, and is collected here for the very first time in a beautiful upgraded softcover!
A homeless man that thinks he’s a superhero befriends an ex-nursing student with a penchant for drugs on the streets of Cleveland, Ohio. The unlikely pair find themselves bouncing from one mishap to another, all while trying to make a small but positive difference in the lives of those they encounter. A hero the city neither needs nor deserves, Captain Suave is a man out of time determined to be a Golden Age superhero. Not unlike Don Quixote of Cervantes’s classic tale, this hero will straddle the line between insanity and benevolence.
Along with his sidekick, Champ, Captain Suave will battle the imaginary forces of evil threatening the fair city of Cleveland. Stopping a wind turbine he mistakes for a hydra from demolishing the city, saving unwitting damsels in distress, and even thwarting real-life robbers, no evildoer is safe from the awesome and quixotic might of Captain Suave!
Why is this important?
A singular take on the superhero genre: Paying tribute to Cleveland’s storied history in comic books, Captain Suave is a hero like no other. Though he is only a superhero of the mind, he will show readers that it doesn’t take superpowers to do what’s right and help others.
Classic literary elements: Blending Golden Age superheroes with Don Quixote, this is a modern take on the Miguel de Cervantes classic, sure to excite both comic book and classic literature readers alike.
Unique visuals: Incorporating both hand-painted watercolors and digital coloring, different artistic styles depict the hero’s fantasy versus what’s happening in reality on the page. Employing a digital dot pattern evoking a Golden Age style of comic book coloring, what the hero believes is happening has a distinctly different feel from the real, painted world.

But an apparent accident at the mine where his father was injured, stalled Aleck’s exit, setting him down a life-altering path.

The Comics Courier, A New Comics Criticism Journal
A newspaper-format journal dedicated to in-depth comics criticism edited by Tiffany Babb
Comics criticism is in a dire spot. Spaces for writing about comics are disappearing at a worrisome pace, and more than ever, comics critics need support – and a place to write.
The Comics Courier is a new biannual print newspaper edited by Tiffany Babb (Popverse, PanelxPanel). The first issue will feature essays and reviews from critics Douglas Wolk, Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, Tiffany Babb, Dave Baker, Carrie McClain, Sean Dillon, Kat Calamia, Lisa and Brad Gullickson, Liam McGuire, Jim McDermott, and Lillie Hochwender.
Our core goal is to create a space for serious (and silly) writing about comics and to share our love for the medium, the creators, and the comics themselves. Thank you for your support.
Water Racers
A Middle Grade Graphic Novel by Mike Schwartz (based on ideas and designs from his kids)

DREAMCATCHERS – A Horror Comics One-Shot
A woman who doesn’t sleep hunts nightmares who’ve escaped into our world, only to find they may be harbingers of an even greater evil
In exchange for the Institute’s help, Dana has agreed to work on their behalf, hunting and killing the very creatures she’s unwittingly released into our reality.
But what if these (literal) nightmares are merely harbingers of an even greater evil?
DREAMCATCHERS began life as an 8-page short story for a friend’s planned anthology. Alas, the anthology project fell apart before the book saw the light of day but after artist Nima Sorat (Graveslinger, Monster Attack Network) had already completed the linework for our contribution. The story stuck with me, and when my friend John Bivens (Spread, The Devil’s Red Bride) reached out to see if I might like to collaborate, the concept immediately sprang to mind as a perfect vehicle for John’s sensibilities. I rewrote the script into a full issue-length story for John.
Graphic Samurai: The Art of Denys Cowan
A comprehensive visual retrospective of a nearly 50-year career in comics from one of the industry’s visionary creators.

CHEST FACE
A pulp noir parody about a stand-up comedian whose face is on his chest.
CHEST FACE is a pulp noir parody about a stand-up comedian workshopping his first comedy special while being hunted by the evil corporation that put his face on his chest.
Created by Ringo- and Emmy Award-winning cartoonist Dean Haspiel, CHEST FACE is the fourth installment in the Dean Haspiel “Deep Cut” Universe. A 24-page, color, limited-edition comic book.

At its root, CHEST FACE is a body horror satire about revenge and redemption. At its heart, CHEST FACE is a neo-noir about chasing the purity of that first laugh while taking stock in everything your mother ever taught you.
The comic book introduces Meridian Prime, a new female superhero who was also mutated against her will and recruits Chest Face to help save her kidnapped daughter while fighting monsters like Forcemeat and The Polydactyl Man. This story sports a heartfelt look at how tragedy and trauma can galvanize your dreams.

Let Us In: An Anthology by Non-US-Creators
A slice-of-life anthology that shares foreign creators’ struggle as they venture into a US-centric comic book industry.

The comic industry owes us nothing, and we chose this path, yet conditions could improve – vastly – and they could begin to value us more.
Is all of this present in other industries? Probably. Does it make it less of a problem? Nope. It’s time to speak up.
A crazed, costumed vigilante stalks the streets of Freak City, seeking final vengeance against his evil rogues gallery.

THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME
The hunter becomes the hunted in this 80 page graphic novel adaptation of the classic short story first published 100 years ago.

He’s been hunting the people who wash up on his island and he wants Sanger to join him on his next hunt.
Sanger refuses. If Sanger won’t hunt with him, then he can be the prey as far as Zaroff is concerned.
Sanger is given a knife, clothes and some advice by Zaroff and his armed bodyguard.
If he survives three days, he can leave. If not, his head goes on Zaroff’s trophy wall. Left with no choice, Sanger takes off into the surrounding jungle.
The hunt is on
