Riptide Sanitarium #2

by Keith Dallas and Juan Romera

The second issue of the imaginative, multi-genre comic book anthology by Ghostbusters writers Keith Dallas and Jim Beard!

Current Funding: $500
Funding Goal: $1,000
Days Left: 25
Link: Riptide Sanitarium #2
Welcome to the Riptide Sanitarium, where every cell tells a tale! The brainchild of Ghostbusters co-writers Keith Dallas and Jim Beard, Riptide Sanitarium is a multi-genre anthology of self-contained stories: horror, science fiction, historical drama, fantasy, crime. In short, any and every kind of story imaginable, and all of them standalone so you won’t have to worry about keeping tabs on some indecipherably convoluted continuity. 20 pages of thrills and creativity. That’s what awaits you inside the RIPTIDE SANITARIUM!
This second issue (or second “cell,” if you like) offers a tale about an elderly Korean War veteran who gets re-enlisted into the Army for one final mission… IN SPACE! It’s a human-interest story with an action packed ending!
This is the most personal story that Keith Dallas has written to date. In fact, the issue is a tribute to Keith’s late father, Charles Dallas, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 95. Charles served in the U.S. Navy for nearly 20 years, participating in the Korean War and retiring in the late 1960s with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Even though he worked in the private sector for decades afterwards, Charles identified himself foremost as a Naval officer. Keith wants readers to appreciate that the lead character of Riptide Sanitarium #2 is essentially a stand-in for his late father (even if the character served in the Army rather than the Navy), and Keith’s intention in writing this story was to honor his father’s military service.

Ghost Light Tales

by Franco, Alex Giannini, Cody Daigle-Orians, Sara Richard, Gwendolyn Kiste, Christa Carmen, Federico Mele, Jaime Carrillo, Sabin Arditty, Nick Palazzo, Thomas Boatwright & Scott McMahon

Current Funding: $2,799
Funding Goal: $4,000
Days Left: 19

What is the Ghost Light?

You’ve seen it. We’ve all seen it. That strange glow out there, deep in the woods. Late in the night. Up on an empty stage in a dark theater. That flash out of the corner of your eye, something bright and fleeting, flickering in the reflection of a mirror.

But I hear what you’re asking. What is it? What is the Ghost Light? That’s what you really want to know. Need to know.

It’s an afternoon thunderstorm. It’s a creaky floorboard in an otherwise empty house. It’s the reason the attic light is burning that dull orange, way up there at the top of those stairs and you don’t remember ever pulling the cord to turn it on.

Very nice, you say. Dramatic, all that. But, c’mon. Tell me what it is.

Fine. Lean in. Listen closely. And don’t tell anyone.

It’s where the stories come from. Not all of them, of course. But the lasting ones. The scary ones. The ones that stick with you long after you’ve closed your eyes. Or tried to, at least.

Because there’s nothing better than a scary story, right? Depends on who you ask, maybe. Personally, the only thing better than one scary story is a whole bunch of scary stories.

Growing up, I’d spend special days hunting bookstore and library shelves for short story collections of creepy, weird, uncanny tales, followed by magical nights hiding under the covers and reading until one of two things happened. One, I fell asleep. Two, morning came.

GHOST LIGHT TALES takes the anthology a number of steps further and combines all the best things: Comic books (like those old House of Mystery issues where you didn’t know if you were gonna get a werewolf story or one about aliens invading some unassuming small town!); creepy illustrations (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, anyone?); and Choose Your Own Adventure (but with comics and screenplays and stage plays! I always thought my ending to that unsettling little story set on the train to nowhere was way scarier, anyway).

We also add in an educational component, thanks to Franco’s teaching background and Alex’s current job as director of programs at a 5-star library in Connecticut.

This Kickstarter project seeks to fund the publication of an 8.5″x11″, 220 page book covering the varied and storied artistic adventures of one Gurchain Singh, AKA The Gurch. Speaking of whom, here’s a project summary, in his own words;
“Hey there, welcome to my artistic journey laid out in this book, ART MOST FOUL. As you flip through these pages, you’re diving into my exploration of dark and unsettling imaginative art. It’s more than just a collection of artworks; it’s a reflection of my passion for all things eerie, macabre, and bizarre, often flavoured with my own twisted sense of humour.
I have to say, it’s thrilling to see these ideas that popped into my head over the years now all collected in this handsome yet foul tome. From my very first published pieces to the specially produced works for this collection, you’ll witness how I’ve refined my craft in the spooky worlds of horror and monster art. Each piece tells its own story, some even capable of making the shadows jump, taking you on a journey through my sketches, drawings, and paintings where you can explore my creativity and imagination firsthand.
The dedication and detail invested in this book are profound, meticulously designed to heighten its eerie appeal and atmosphere. I hope you find the contents of this book wonderfully strange and strangely wonderful.
Yours most fully,
The Gurch”
This project, for which Gurch has produced DOZENS of new images, seeks to primarily showcase the Gore Shriek years, both past and current, as well as several of his newer works along with sketches that never quite made it to publication, projects for smaller publishers, and a whole pile of works he’s done just for himself to stay fresh and pay homage to many of his passions.
