CAMP FIRE: A Horror Graphic Novel
An original horror graphic novel from the creator of Black Sand Beach
Current Funding: $2,575
Funding Goal: $2,500
Days Left: 6
Link: CAMP FIRE: A Horror Graphic Novel
Richard Fairgray, creator of BLACK SAND BEACH, is finally back to writing horror comics, and not just funny ones with people eating corn while they poop. This is a deeply unsettling story about being lost in the woods and the illusion of safety offered by a fire.
You arrive at a camp fire. Everyone else is already there. Stories have already been told, stories you’ll never find out. All eyes are on you. What story do you have to tell?
- A girl left behind in a subway station with no stairs. The only way out is down the tracks.
- A camp counsellor with a gaping head wound, just trying to wake someone up.
- A child who knows that the monsters only told us the dark was scary so we’d run to a place where they could see us.
This is a story about community, about finding friends in the darkness, about the oldest of human traditions. We are, after all, storytelling creatures.
Layer after layer of story unfolds, all centred on a bright light that draws us in. All centred around a camp fire. Maybe the only camp fire.

By telling true stories of scientists through comics, we make those moments of curiosity, courage, and discovery feel personal and powerful. These stories show that science is a process—not a set of answers—and that behind every breakthrough is a curious, determined human being.
We believe that when kids (and adults!) see themselves in these stories, it sparks something deeper: not just knowledge, but confidence. Not just learning, but inspiration.
That’s why we tell these stories. To make science relatable, exciting, and maybe even life-changing.
Our goal is to make science feel exciting, relatable, and inspiring for readers of all ages. Whether you’re flipping through with your kids or exploring solo, these comics are designed to spark wonder and keep you turning the page.
