Welcome to Paperfilms newest Kickstarter DEEP SEA: Written by acclaimed duo Jimmy Palmiotti [ Punisher-Harley Quinn-Painkiller Jane] and Justin Gray [ The Resistance- Jonah Hex and Powergirl], with stunning visuals from award-winning artist Tony Akins[ Fables and Wonder woman] and masterful colors by Paul Mounts. DEEP SEA is a standalone 48 page graphic novel that plunges readers into a world where memory, mystery, and monsters collide.

We introduce you to Paul Barry who was once a fearless deep-sea diver—until a catastrophic mission swallowed his crew and the ship they were on and left him drowning in guilt. Decades later, long after he’s hung up his gear, the impossible happens: the missing vessel is recovered, and he is called to the scene to discover what awaits him. what surfaces isn’t just wreckage—it’s a terrifying truth buried in the abyss. Now Paul must confront the ghosts of his past and the ancient secret that’s been waiting in the dark. This is the story of Lost love that lingers like sonar echoes, where Exploration of the unknown opens the doors and unleashes a primordial force, older than myth and hungry for reckoning, and that is just the beginning.

DEEP SEA is more than a monster story—it’s a high-concept adventure wrapped in emotional introspection, with the pulse of a blockbuster and the soul of a tragedy. This was originally published in a three-part serial many years ago for Dark Horse Comics, but the team got together and added three more chapters, and all of this is presented for the first time here!

If you’re drawn to stories like The Abyss, Sphere, or The Thing, but crave something more intimate and emotionally resonant, DEEP SEA will pull you under—and you’ll be glad it did. This is an all-ages story. 48 pages.

Current Funding: $28,947
Funding Goal: $12,000
Days Left:  21
It all starts with the end of the world, an opossum, and the creature that saves it (the opossum, not the world)

Those That Inherit the Earth is an episodic story following the lives and exploits of a mutant opossum and the last living human as they explore a strange new Earth in search of any traces of humanity.

This is my sword-and-sci-fi setting (with a bit of occasional sorcery thrown in for good measure), it’s my answer to my urge to do a more episodic story in the vein of Conan the BarbarianKamandi and Farscape – all rolled into one.

Packrat & Thunderbunny 1-2

The long awaited 2nd issue of a humorous, action-packed superhero buddy comic book. This time with an origin story and a new character!

Current Funding: $7,415
Funding Goal: $2,000
Days Left: 2
Packrat & Thunderbunny is an indie-created, humorous, action-packed, buddy superhero comic book. Think Looney Tunes meets Marvel/DC. Drawn in a bold, brightly-colored cartoony style, this comic book is a kid-friendly fun and funny romp that pays tribute to the classic superhero comic book genre of heroes vs villains.

Packrat and Thunderbunny are two characters that are both best friends that happen to be superheroes (however, as you saw in Issue #1, one of them is unaware they are best friends yet). Much like the main characters of the book, the co-creators of this comic, Derek Jason Bush and John Fletcher Pasquini, are also best friends and have been since they met in high school back in 1987! Yeah, we are that old! The characters were created when Derek was a freshman and John was a senior. It took 35+ years for these characters to come to life. If you want to read the entire backstory behind the making of these characters, check out the Backstory section of our first campaign here.

This 24-page comic book is Part 2 of a planned 5-comic story arc, that began with Issue #1. See the previous campaign pagefor more details.

EVEL KNIEVEL #1 from Ringo Award-Winner 21`

The legendary daredevil makes the death-defying leap into comics. From Half Evil Comics, publisher of THE JUMP and THE BREACH.

Current Funding: $ 14,402
Funding Goal: $ 7,000
Days Left: 19

The legendary daredevil EVEL KNIEVEL makes the death-defying leap into comics in his very first full-length series from the fine folks at Half Evil Comics!

Brought to life by Ringo Award-winning writer Rylend Grant (THE JUMP and THE PEACEKEEPERS), artist Dave Acosta (TERRORWAR, ELVIRA, and DRAGON), Letterer HdE, and editor R.E. Nelson… with some real bitchin’ covers by Ray-Anthony Height, Flops, Jon Pinto, and Fabio Alves.

Made possible with TONS of support from the Evel Knievel Brand, Kelly Knievel (Evel’s son), and the fine folks at the Evel Knievel Museum.

Evel is one of the most iconic characters in American history. A folk hero in the truest sense of the word. Well, we’ve leaned WAY the hell into that here.

I’m a screenwriter by trade. For over a decade, I’ve made my living writing smart, mind-bending action thrillers for directors like JJ Abrams, Ridley Scott, Justin Lin, John Woo, Luc Besson, and F. Gary Gray, so I can’t help but think of things in cinematic terms. Our original mandate here was to make Evel an adventurer, to find this character’s Smokey and the Bandit or his No Country for Old Men. And I think we ended up with something pretty damn incredible.

We see this story as a modern Western. Some fit of terrible befalls a community. Evel is the swaggery gunslinger who rides in on a steel horse, howling at the goddamn moon and solves the mystery, runs the bad guys out of town, and beds the local bombshell.

Fiction aside, we went out of our way to honor the actual history. This first story arc of the series – titled THE LAST GLADIATOR – will start with Evel crashing at Caesar’s. We’ll be there when he goes from relative unknown to stratospherically-famous, essentially overnight. It’s then, when he has the entire world’s attention that he boldly declares that he’s going to jump Snake River Canyon.

We’ll also see him brawl with more bikers at the Cow Palace in San Francisco… we’ll be there for his wonderfully infamous “million dollar party” in Butte, Montana… we’ll see him win bets, bed woman, and fight jerks in bars… we’ll see him jump just about everything a lovable lunatic could on a motorcycle… and we’ll adore him for it.
