Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 may have just wrapped, but the story is just beginning: A Jujutsu Kaisen movie has officially been announced!
The news came following Episode 24 of the anime series and current finale, teasing the film adaptation of the manga’s Volume 0. It was also published by the official Twitter account for the series. The official JUJUTSU KAISEN anime announced today that a movie based on the prequel manga JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 is coming this Winter. Studio MAPPA will handle the animation production.
This prequel story, titled Blinding Darkness, focuses on Yuta Okkutsu, a nervous high schooler whose childhood friend Rika has turned into a cursed spirit and is constantly haunting him. Nothing like your childhood friend, ya know, haunting you…
While many manga readers know the story well, it will be an entertaining one for our anime-only community to see. The way that these scenes will pull together in a, hopefully, season two will give everyone more insight on who Yuta Okkutsu is as he has been talked about several times. With this mysteriousness of not just Yuta but his own curse object being Rika will also tell the story of how she became his curse object. While the season has ended, we must wait for this movie to come out, will this lead to a second season? Will we find out what happens in the later arcs?
The first teaser for the Jujutsu Kaisen movie confirms that studio MAPPA will return to do the animation, while TOHO will distribute the film this winter in Japan. And I have long sung the praises for MAPPA, they have been doing an amazing job with not just Jujutsu Kaisen and many others that they have taken on. While MAPPA has been dishing out so many amazing animations and giving us an experience that we will never get over. We hope that they will continue to do so during the Jujutsu Kaisen movie, and we can’t wait how they will be animating Rika.
There will be so many other questions to be answered during this movie and not just who Yuta is, but we will see a much larger insight on Panda, Toge Inumaki, and Maki Zenin are and how their roles play in this new movie. But, even more, who is Suguru Geto? How did his plans for getting Sukuna’s fingers come into play? And why in episode seven or for the manga readers chapter sixteen, did he state “I can’t afford to be seen by anyone from the school?” There is so much to unpack and only the visual art and teaser trailer dropped. What is going to happen when the world finally knows what is going to happen and why Yuta will be so important in the future.
Will this also open to more movies and even another season for Jujutsu Kaisen? Will MAPPA be the animation studio for the rest of this anime? While many manga readers have dived deeply into the world, we are very excited to see the anime-only community finally see what all the hype will be about later on. We cannot wait until the movie comes out and for all of us to see what is more to come. While it may take some time for the anime movie to come out, we will be able to still rewatch Jujutsu Kaisen on Crunchyroll in sub and dub versions. So don’t worry!
