If there was one word to describe being in Richmond for GalaxyCon it would be…spectacular!
The River City was overtaken by thousands of rabid fandoms of all ages. What a joy to see families cosplaying together, parents holding props, and not to mention when the tiny ones get to see Batman, Spider-Man, or as my nerd in training 3-year-old yelled when she saw Darth Vader…THE STAR WARS. Not only do the cosplayers take the time out for photos but there’s a great vibe oozing from their persona when other folks stop and admire them. Walking around the convention and taking in all the wares that were being peddled. Decals, props, pins, action figures, just about anything you could think of. Not to mention the great cosplay that was there. The 501st was in attendance and is always on point. The second floor housed the cosplay meet-up section and it was a steady buzz of anime, Spider-Men, Spider-Gwens, and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the timelords and their big blue call box.
Downtown Richmond was buzzing with excitement as people poured into the convention center with rabid fervor with the hopes of engaging with there favorite creator, voice actor, or celebrity, and GalaxyCon Richmond had just that.
The celebrity guest list was not only diverse but crossed over generations with the likes of Sam Jones and Justin Briner, making sure that geekdom knows no age. Not to be out down by mean the creator side of the house had a guest list worthy of Mjolnir which such names as Richard Case, Alex Saviuk, Robbi Rodriguez, and Becky Cloonan just to name a few. Every inch of fandom was covered in panels showcasing art, influences, and the ability to get close to your favorite artist or celebrity. All in all, GalaxyCon Richmond was a huge success for all in attendance. The staff was a treasure to work with both on the press level and with general questions pertaining to the con. Smiles and joy were plentiful for three packed days of fantastic fandom.
