Diamond Comic Distributors announced that it is continuing to finalize the documents needed to sell off parts of the business. The company is preparing these sales due to its ongoing bankruptcy case in Maryland. The assets in question include Diamond Comic Distributors, Alliance Game Distributors, Diamond Book Distributors, Diamond Select Toys & Collectibles, Collectible Grading Authority, and other related assets. The hearing to determine the approval of these sales will occur on Monday, April 7.
In the press release, Diamond Chief Restructuring Officer Robert Gorin spoke about the conditions for the sale, stating:
“We continue to work diligently with our legal and financial advisors to pursue the best path forward for the company and are pleased with the strong interest in Diamond’s assets throughout this process. Our priority as we confirm a buyer remains minimizing disruption to publishers, retailers, our employees, and comic and games fans everywhere. We will continue to provide updates as the process continues.”
It was reported that Diamond filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on January 14 after the company sent out letters stating their intent. The Diamond UK division and Alliance Game Distributors were not included in this process, having been sold to Canada based Universal Distribution. Diamond also expressed in that initial letter that they are continuing business operations during the bankruptcy process, including the ones for Free Comic Book Day 2025.
