Marvel announced yesterday a new giant-sized one-shot chronicling the final story of tragic villain Doctor Doom. Doom #1 comes from storytellers Jonathan Hickman and Sanford Greene with art by Greene, and launches this May. Telling a story in the near future, Doctor Doom is forced to confront Galactus by teaming up with one of his few peers, Valeria Richards.
In the press release, Sanford Green discussed the inspiration for the one-shot, stating:
“Growing up reading Marvel comics, I became fascinated by Doctor Doom and how he potentially is the center of the entire Marvel Universe! He is one of my bucket list characters and this story is somewhat a love letter to Doom and Marvel.”
Alongside writing and interior art duties, Greene also illustrated the cover for the single issue.
Jonathan Hickman described his experience working with Green, stating:
“Sanford and I have been waiting to work together for quite a while, so when he told me that he’d come up with an amazing Doom story and he wanted me to help out, I jumped at the chance. It’s a giant-sized story about a giant-sized character and I can’t tell you how excited I am to get to write Doom again.”
The issue synopsis and release details can be seen below.
