Since Disney acquired the Star Wars franchise from Lucasfilm there have been many new projects that have expanded the Star Wars Universe. Some have been received better than others, with that have been fan favorites yet still cause much dissent in the ranks of fans, but for the most part, many have been well received.
Andor, The Mandalorian, The Bad Batch, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka are perhaps the series that have been best received because they focus on characters and storylines that are outside the main Skywalker Saga. As fans prepare for the first introduction to onscreen introduction the High Republic Era with The Acolyte, there are many possibilities that should be considered when expanding the mythos of Star Wars moving forward.
The Outline For Season 2 Of Obi-Wan Could Be Developed From John Jackson Miller’s Extended Universe Legends Novel
In 2013, writer John Jackson Miller penned the Extended Universe novel Kenobi. The story revolves around Obi-Wan setting up his life on Tatooine as he prepares to watch over Luke. Throughout the story, Kenobi must walk the fine line of keeping a low profile while acclimating himself to his new life and navigating the shady dealings of the moisture farmers who also live around him.
A subplot that runs through the story is his attempts to reconnect with Qui-Gon, which was part of the final big reveal of the Disney series. Adapting or using this work as a starting point would solve many issues that some had with the original series of Obi-Wan leaving the planet to rescue the young Leia who had been kidnapped. If the writers wanted to include Hayden Christianson in the project he could be worked in flashbacks or part of Kenobi’s meditation.
The Star Wars Bounty Hunters Would Show A Corner Of the Star Wars Universe Only Explored In The Comic Books
In 2020, Marvel Comics launched a stand-alone title starring some of the most deadly bounty hunters in the universe. Written by Ethan Sacks and illustrated by Paolo Villanelli, the series followed Beilert Valance. an Imperial Officer turned into a cyborg after a tie fighter crash. Along the way classic characters such as Bossk, Dengar, 4-LOM, and Zuckuss, along with some new characters as they found their way between the other Star Wars titles taking between The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi. The series could adapt the initial storyline of the bounty hunters tracking down Boba Fett or tell a new story.
The Series Of Books “From A Certain Point Of View” Provide A Framework For An Anthology Series That Would Put A New Spin On The Original Saga
To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the original trilogy, prose anthologies featuring authors from across the literary world collaborated to present moments from the films but from characters other than Luke, Leia, or Han. The series would be perfect for an Animatrix-style treatment adapting not only those stories from the books but allowing new creators to run with the idea of telling the story that fans know and love but from, as to use the familiar phrase that Obi-Wan used when telling Luke about his father, “From A Certain Point Of View.” This would be the perfect companion piece to the already awesome Star Wars: Visions which blends Anime with the Star Wars universe.
Ahsoka, The TheYoung-Adult Novel Written By E. K. Johnston Could Be A Stand Alone Adaption Or Worked Into The Ahsoka Disney Plus Series
Following her appearance in The Mandalorian season 2 and her own live-action solo series, Ahsoka’s popularity continues to be at an all-time high of popularity. After being introduced in The Clone Wars animated series, Ahsoka’s story as Anakin’s padawan and Jedi outcast has been a breath of fresh air as she continued to appear in Star Wars: Rebels cartoon. As a character who is the sole surviving connection to Anakin’s life before becoming Darth Vader, her story continues to play out as she seems to be poised to be the focal point of a post-Skywalker era.
The 2006 novel by E.K. Johnson tells the events of Ahsoka’s journey following the rise of the Empire and her time of hiding before returning to help the growing Rebellion movement as Fulcrum. The novel’s plot was the basis for Episode 6 of the Tales Of The Jedi shorts on Disney but omits some of the more exciting parts of the book and allows for a deeper look into Ahsoka’s growth as a person following the events of the final season of The Clone Wars. Adapting this particular novel could be the response for a live-action show featuring a younger version of Ahsoka.
The Star Wars Universe Is Perfect For The “What If?..” Treatment Under The Title Of Shatterpoints
The concept of “What If?” stories while not a new concept to Star Wars, would be an interesting way to tell new stories diverging from critical moments in the Star Wars mythos. In the ‘90s while Dark Horse held the Star Wars licenses, Star Wars: Infinities looked at the original movies through the lense of how events might have been different should one of the main characters die or take a different path.
To avoid confusion with Marvel’s animated What If? series, the series could be titled Shatterpoints, playing off the Force ability used to sense the significance of an event,or a way to denote pivotal moments in time where a certain outcome could significantly change events throughout the universe. Each episode could be contained story using a different shatterpoint moment to begin.
