The Incredibles 2 releases in Theatres June 15th 2018, but what took so long?

Disney Pixar
Release date: June 15th, 2018
Directed by: Brad Bird

What You Need to Know:

Coming to theatres this Friday, the Incredibles 2 reunites the viewing public with the Parr family, known as the Incredibles. This a mere fourteen years after the first film came out in 2004. The film was a success and spawning a popular franchise seemed to be in Disney’s plans, but what was it that kept the Incredibles on Pixar’s shelf?

Brad Bird the Writer and Director of the film (also the voice of Edna Mode) described the sudden explosion of Superhero movies made it difficult to write a follow up to the first film. That movie itself had been a comment on the destruction of the Super Hero cure in the world at the time, and it leads to the rise of the Ani-Hero (see Syndrome the first film’s Villain). This seems typically true with films like The Fantastic Four from 2015 which never quite caught the same audience that the Incredibles seemed to reach near ten years prior. Many consider the Incredibles to be the best version of the Fantastic Four brought to film thus far.

Bird goes on to say that the film came together much faster than expected and was moved up from summer 2019. The original release schedule was for Toy Story 4 to be released in the summer of 2018, but in the height of the Disney and Marvel merger, it made more sense to capitalize on the Hero hysteria The Avengers Infinity War.

The full cast returns including Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter and Samuel L. Jackson. The climate is right for a new Pixar Blockbuster that will hopefully present a fine contrast to the darker films of the year including Deadpool 2 and The Infinity War, that seemed to leave most viewers in need of a hug.
