Flat Line: Fans Brace for Charles Soule’s “The Death of Daredevil”

Things haven’t been looking good for Daredevil for a while now. If Matt Murdock was hoping for any improvement, Marvel announced on September 21st that one of our all-time favorite superheroes is about to meet his end.

Charles Soule, who has been writing Daredevil throughout a respectable tenure will leave the book and Matt’s story in dire straights. On purpose.

Soule spoke on the subject and said that “A lot of writers in the past have left Daredevil in terrible situations at the end of their runs,” The writer commented further saying, “Brian Michael Bendis put him in prison for Ed Brubaker to handle; Mark Waid, who preceded me, had Daredevil in San Francisco, his secret identity was blown, he wasn’t a lawyer anymore. I had to handle all of that. So, I wanted to carry on in the tradition of leaving Daredevil in the worst spot imaginable and letting the next writer somehow deal with this impossible problem that Matt [Murdock] would never get out of. And I wanted to make mine the biggest one that has ever been done.

It seems like sabotage has had a longstanding tradition with DD writers for many years. Soule promises that the Death of Daredevil will live up to its name and strives to mark his departure, leaving behind a lasting and tangible character changes that will alter the trajectory of writers in the years to come.

Beginning in Daredevil #609 the Death of Daredevil will rock the fanbase to its core. The comic hits shelves on Wednesday, October 17th.
