Marvel reveals that the Earth-65 version of Gwen Stacy, aka Spider-Gwen/Ghost-Spider, will be getting trapped in the main continuity going forward. After a world tour and a throwdown with a new Doc Ock, this April a new volume of Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider traps Gwen in 616, forcing her to settle into a new life in a world where her doppelgänger has been dead for years. The new series stems from writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Chris Campana as they guide Gwen into her new status quo.
Phillips discussed the impact of writing the series, stating:
“Right after I started working on this new Spider-Gwen ongoing, I saw a little girl on Halloween dressed as Gwen and hitting some cool spidey poses. It was kind of a surreal moment to realize that I get to be a part of Gwen’s next big chapter, bringing her into the 616 and giving readers stories that make us rethink who Gwen is and what her role is within this new universe. I’m also working on this story with the incredible Chris Campana, a great collaborator and friend, and I truly believe this is one of the most special books I’ve been a part of.”
Mark Brooks will illustrate at least the first cover of the series, which Marvel has also revealed. Depicting Ghost-Spider in costume, the image clashes with details about the story. Gwen will have to hide her predicament from the other spider characters, and struggle with whether or not she should suit up to help the superhero community.
