By the Power of Grayskull… David Goyer in Negotiations to Direct He-Man Reboot

David S. Goyer the multi-talented scriptwriter behind the Dark Knight Trilogy, Blade Trilogy, Man of Steel and Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice and who directed Blade: Trinity is reportedly in negotiations to direct a new Masters Of The Universe live-action motion picture set for release at the end of 2019.

According to a report by The Wrap Goyer who is repped by WME has already written the latest draught of the script for the project which has been a long time in development and is now in negotiations to direct. The rights to the wildly popular 80’s property are owned by Sony Pictures. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch are producing the film for Escape Artists along with DeVon Franklin. Mattel, who started the original and highly successful toyline which became a hit animation tv series in 1983, is also involved in the project with its executives David Voss and Julia Pistor set as executive producers. Sony executive Mathew Miliam will be overseeing the project for the Studio.

The property has already spawned one live-action movie in 1988 staring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella which although poorly received by the critics and the box office has gone on to become a bit of a cult classic for fans of the Masters of the Universe property.

The story is centered around the adventures of hero He-man on a planet called Eternia and He-man’s conflict with arch- enemy Skeletor, a very popular villain thanks mainly to the 80’s cartoon.

Although no indication of the eventual outcome of the negotiations I noted a tweet from Mark Millar on Twitter this morning remarking on his approval to have Goyer head the project. High praise from someone whos cup seems set to run over next year.

Sony Pictures have already set the release date for the 18 December 2018.
