Steve Niles returns to IDW with Brynmore, a new 5 issue miniseries this summer, focusing on a sinister curse haunting a remote island. Niles might be best known as a creator of 30 Days of Night for IDW before being adapted into a feature film. Brynmore will see Mark Turner, who’s found sobriety after a divorce, return to Turner Island where he grew up. Between resentment from the locals and a dark mystery that dates back to his ancestors, Mark has to face his past and dark forces working to manipulate it.
??“I’ve had the title Brynmore in mind for years, waiting for the right story,” says Niles. “This one just felt right. It has themes that I love to work with often: being an outsider in a strange land, the struggles of a single parent, plus a good dose of horror and scares. One of the big motivations for Brynmore was getting to work with Damien Worm again. I love working with him, and he’s really bringing out the big guns for this series.”
Brynmore will feature art from Damien Worm, who worked with Niles on October Faction. Worm will provide the main cover, while Francesco Francavilla will draw the B cover and Martin Simmonds will draw a retailer incentive cover.
“When Steve came up with the idea of Brynmore, I was sure it would be fun,” says Worm. “The history of the island, with its ancestral magical heritage having a direct impact on the story taking place centuries later, was really exciting for me. I also loved watching the characters fight against ancient monsters and personal demons at the same time. Very dark, gritty, atmospheric stuff.”
Brynmore #1 will be available in June 2023 with three variant covers for fans and retailers to enjoy, including Cover A by series artist Damien Worm, Cover B by Francesco Francavilla, and a retailer incentive cover by Martin Simmonds.
