IDW Publishing announces that it is partnering with the new digital retailer and comic reader Omnibus to sell its digital comics through the platform. Omnibus, which launched early this year, continues its approach to trying to fill the Comixology (which lost its standalone app yesterday) shaped hole in the digital comic landscape. IDW joins publishers like Image Comics, BOOM! Studios, and Oni Press as hosting their comics on the emerging platform.
IDW’s Co-Publisher Tara McCrillis discussed the importance of supporting the new platform in the press release, stating:
“We are excited to partner with Omnibus and their new digital reading app. We believe the hole ComiXology is leaving in the market is going to be filled with innovators like the Omnibus team. Our goal is to allow our fans to have access to our content in as many places as possible.”
IDW is also bringing comics from Top Shelf to the app, and leads with the inclusion of critically acclaimed and best sellers like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, Dark Spaces, and the much beloved series here at Comic Watch, The Hunger and the Dusk. IDW states they will sell over 300 comics on the service, which can be accessed via the service’s webstore or iPadOS app. Omnibus plans to expand to Android and iOS in the near future.
Travis Schmeisser, Co-Founder of Omnibus, described the partnership between the two companies, stating:
We’re excited to carry IDW’s killer stable of classics and new hits alike. Readers across the world will be able to enjoy amazing titles like THE LAST RONIN and the Eisner-nominated STAR TREK series on Omnibus’ best-in-class digital reader and store. These are must-have books in everyone’s collection!”
