Interview: Pablo Leon Reclaims Memories From The Guatemalan Genocide in SILENCED VOICES

This September,  Eisner-nominated creator Pablo Leon combines historical research of the Guatemalan Civil War with his own experiences as a Guatemalan immigrant to depict a powerful story of family, sacrifice, survival, and hope in Reclaiming Memories from the Guatemalan Genocide

In SILENCED VOICES, Pablo explores the horrors and aftermath of the Guatemalan genocide and civil war through two Maryland brothers unearthing their mother’s tale of sisterhood and survival. Pablo drew from research and his own experiences as a Guatemalan immigrant, making for an especially personal and powerful intergenerational story about sacrifice, survival, and hope.

Pablo sat down with Comic Watch to chat about the YA OGN out September 2nd, in time for for National Hispanic Heritage Month (9/15 – 10/15).

Pablo Leon’s YA graphic novel debut, SILENCED VOICES: Reclaiming Memories from the Guatemalan Genocide  arrives on September 2, 2025
