Interview with ANN NOCENTI on 80s X-Editorial, Her New Books & Beyond – Mutant Watch Ep018

ICYMI: This last Saturday @watchthemutants was visited by @annienocenti to talk about her X-Editorial years, putting marginalized stories on the page, journalism, her creative process, and her most recent works The Seeds & Ruby Falls. #XMenMonday

This last Saturday, we had the luck of chatting with Ann Nocenti in our X-related podcast Mutant Watch about the creative environment of the X-Office in the 80s and how books like New Mutants, her Daredevil run or Beauty and the Beast sprout; how her journalism, teaching and filmmaking has influenced her comics and vice-versa, and the overarching themes of her career around social themes, marginalization and documentary-like stories.

The conversation runs from the dream-team of her, Louise Simonson, Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, to Eisenstein and his montage theory, to her process of drawing and thumbnailing, to her collaborations with David Aja on The Seeds and Flavia Biondi on Ruby Falls for Karen Berger’s Berger Books. An incredibly in-depth conversation on a lot of points of her career.
