Blessed and cursed with a memorably comical name, Bob Fingerman was fated to be a cartoonist. And that’s what he’s done with his life since the moment he could first grasp a crayon! 2024 is a milestone for Fingerman: his 40th anniversary of working professionally as a writer and artist. Starting his career, in 1984, working for the legendary Harvey Kurtzman on the short-lived humor anthology, NUTS!, then cutting his teeth as a regular for Cracked magazine, continuing on through the sewers of adult publications, and along the way working for pretty much every comic publisher (Marvel, DC, Vertigo, Archie, Eclipse, Fantagraphics, Dark Horse, Heavy Metal, IDW, etc.), Fingerman has cut a curious swath through Comicdom with his idiosyncratic style and scripts.

That’s Some Business You’re In is a career-spanning art book, brimming with content that even though old will be new to most readers. Plus, tons of recent art. It also is a damned good read, with a foreword by Bill Sienkiewicz, then starting with a detailed career memoir, and followed by individual sections highlighting and elaborating on specific topics and phases, from student years, to his time as “one of the usual gang of idiots” in MAD magazine, to his signature works like Minimum Wage, Recess Pieces and the more recent Dotty’s Inferno.

Boasting a huge amount of art, much of which is presented for the first time scanned from the originals, warts and all, “Artist’s Edition” style, as well as archival materials and tear sheets, That’s Some Business You’re In is essential for any fan of Fingerman’s work, and also for those unacquainted, as a deep dive to whet their appetites for more!

Sky Masters of the Space Force – The Complete Sunday Strips in Color

A historic first publication by Kirby Museum Press and is the first official crowdfunding campaign for a Jack Kirby book.

Current Funding: $47,708
Funding Goal: $10,000
Days Left: 5

The Sky Masters of the Space Force newspaper strip is one of the most fascinating and obscure works by comics legend Jack Kirby. The strip narrates, with a realistic approach, the adventures of Major Sky Masters during the early days of space exploration in the late 1950s, just as a new front opened in the Cold War between the U.S. and U.S.S.R.: a frenzied space race. Now fans and scholars can experience this lost piece of Kirby history as never before, with Sky Masters of the Space Force – The Complete Sunday Strips in Color.

Created and developed by Kirby with writer Dave Wood at the beginning of 1958 while Kirby was working for National (DC), the Sky Masters daily strip debuted on September 8 of that year. Five months later, on February 8, 1959, the color Sunday strips arrived featuring a totally independent storyline from the dailies.

Sky Masters features spectacular art from two of the comics industry’s leading lights of the era. Kirby and embellisher Wallace Wood were both at the peak of their careers, and brought the art of the strip to unprecedented levels. Compared to the Sky Masters dailies, the Sunday strips were the maximum expression of the team’s artistic prowess.

While the Sky Masters Sundays have seen print before, they’ve never been presented in their complete form or in color. Spanish designer Ferran Delgado, who compiled and produced the Eisner Award-nominated first edition of this book published in 2015, found all the best source material, including an extra 100 panels that were created to allow for the various formats of  Sunday newspaper sections. Some of these panels hadn’t been seen in any reprint editions. Delgado also featured the first re-printing of strip #52, which hadn’t been printed since its original publication in newspapers. Sky Masters of the Space Force – The Complete Sunday Strips in Color contains all 54 complete Sunday strips, including the extra panels, compiled in color, all painstakingly remastered in this deluxe volume

Welcome to Miskatonic High, the comic series about the teens who take on Lovecraft monsters and their small-town high school…they’re just not sure which is worse.

Don’t worry, you don’t need to know anything about H.P. Lovecraft to enjoy this series, just like you don’t have to remember anything from your high school graduation party… like where did you leave your diploma!?!

The story so far:
In the rustic hills of a small New England town lies the prestigious Miskatonic High School. When the Community Services Club went on a field trip they were launched back to a silent city and were nearly killed by an evil wizard and his tentacle monster. The teens escaped back to our century, but things have never been the same. Since then, we learned some of the secrets haunting the students of the Community Service Club and that their world is not what they thought it was.

If you like your horror mixed with tongue-in-cheek humor and a bit of unexpected drama, like Buffy, Evil Dead or Get Out, you’ll probably enjoy Miskatonic High.

Normally each issue is pretty much self contained, but this is the final issue of our third season! Nine issues–created over the course of two years–are coming to a conclusion here!

In issue #22, Matt’s hockey party ends with a bang, but will Matt discover the secret chained in the attic before his mom discovers what he’s been up to? Also, Sarah isn’t out of the woods yet, as Chris the psycho stalks her through the night. But he’s not the only thing hunting her. It’ll take a Christmas miracle for any of the teens to survive this season-ending issue!

If you’ve been waiting to jump into Miskatonic High, this is a great time to make the plunge!

Dead Air #1-2 90s College Radio Sci-Fi With A Soundtrack

What if one day every year you could talk to the dead?

Current Funding: $6,120
Funding Goal: $9,719
Days Left: 25
Link: Dead Air #1-2 90s College Radio Sci-Fi With A Soundtrack
What if one day a year, every year, you could talk to the dead? That’s the world of Dead Air, where the miraculous D-TALq technology has now been commoditized to the point where it’s lost more than a little of its luster. When main character Michelle finally heads to her local D-TALq franchise to reach out to a long-departed friend from her college radio days, she gets the surprise of her life that forces her to question everything she thought she knew about her past, all while striving to understand its impact on the future of everyone she cares about.
Dead Air jumps back and forth, time-wise, between Michelle’s late-90s college radio scene friendships and the tragedy that shaped her present, and the early-2010s adulthood that she and her fellow post-grads are navigating so many years later. It’s sci-fi with a soundtrack, but more importantly, it’s a look at the ties—and tunes—that bind people together across both time and space.
Issue #1 introduces us to Michelle’s 90’s university radio crew and their adult counterparts in 2011, each of which is plunged into a mystery that’s seemingly linked across the years that separate them — and linked to the D-TALq technology that has defined their future.

Voyager #2/6 Action/fantasy adventure miniseries – Make 100

Days Left: 13
Link: Voyager #2/6 Action/fantasy adventure miniseries – Make 100

Gus Benes is in for an adventure that transcends time and place. Like After a tornado whisks him away to a strange and distant land, he’ll have to confront multiple dangers and discover if he measures up to the “chosen one” status the locals expect, unless it’s all a product of his own imagination.

Voyager presents an adventure story inspired by Greek myths and fantastic journeys, in the spirit of Moebius “Arzach” or “John Carter from Mars”. It is a hero’s journey, where our protagonist must first find himself in order to be more than he expected. Likewise, the two women that he will find on his way are two sides of the same coin: fundamental figures on his own path of discovery.
