Krowdfunder Korner For April 8, 2023

Kickstarter isn’t the only place indie creators go to fund their projects, and we here at Comic Watch want to highlight and support those projects across the various platforms.

We especially want to spotlight those projects that still need a push along with those stretch goals.

Below is a brief synopsis of the project; for more details and to support the projects, click on the link to the campaign page.

In 1973, the Supreme Court gave women the right to make decisions over the care of their own bodies. A mere fifty years later, a rogue Supreme Court has taken that right away. Today, over 32 states have banned or severely restricted abortion. We’re fighting back as best we can, with pens and brushes, paper and ink, to produce a pro-choice anthology, Won’t Back Down, featuring the work of over 30 artists, writers, inkers, and colorists, and we’re giving the profits to Planned Parenthood. We need $8,500 dollars to pay for printing and related costs.

Miscarry by Lee Marrs / A Lonely Childhood by Grace Gordon, Joelle Barreto, Grace Desmarais, and Isabell Struble

Forced Birth Nation by Eve Furchgott / Careless Love: UnWanted Pregnancy in Folk Song by Sharon Rudahl

With Won’t Back Down, Trina Robbins has created an important anthology that celebrates women who fight for justice. This is an essential crowdfunding project for anyone interested in women’s rights, free speech, or simply great comics.

Proceeds will be donated to Planned Parenthood.

BUNKBED MISHAPS

By Mark Russell (@ManRuss)

Current Funding:  $6,077
Funding Goal: $5,000
Days Left: 26
Link: Bunkbed Mishaps

Eisner, GLAAD, and Ringo award-winning comic book writer Mark Russell has made a name for himself with his sharply satirical writing in comic books such as Prez, The Flintstones, Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles, Not All Robots, Superman: Space Age, Second Coming, Billionaire Island, My Bad, and more. Now the writer is turning to a new medium for the first time with BUNKBED MISHAPS, his first-ever collection of cartoons.

“Bunkbed Mishaps collects nearly a hundred cartoons, drawn over the course of three decades, as well as several mini-essays in which I open up about my life and what was going on with me while I was drawing them,” said Mark Russell. “It’s as close to a memoir as I’ve ever written, though most of what it captures is the danker recesses of my mind, which gave birth to these cartoons.  I’d be lying if I said that I understood them or why I drew them. But it meant a lot for me to do so and even more now to share them with the world.”

A person goes about their daily life. It is boring, cyclic. They are then swallowed up and enter the “innerworld.” Here they sink, fight, cage, are chased by, swallowed by their monster. They then must find a way out of the darkness and haul their monster up to “overworld.” They then learn how to accept and live with their monster going forward. Although this may be a hard journey to take, I want it to be an uplifting one.
