Marvel continues to celebrate a year of vital anniversaries, this time as Wolverine crosses the 50 year mark. To honor the man that’s the best at what he does, legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont returns to the character this February in Wolverine: Madripoor Knights. The five issue limited series comes from Claremont and artist Edgar Salazar, who recently finished illustrating a miniseries about Laura Kinney during her pre-Wolverine, X-23 days.
Madripoor Knights will give Claremont and Salazar a chance to return to the events following Uncanny X-Men #268, which paired the writer with superstar artist Jim Lee to tell a story of Wolverine and Captain America’s earliest meeting in World War II. The storyline also ropes in Black Widow as the duo rescue a younger Natasha Romanoff, and in the present day, Wolverine and Widow team up for a battle in Madripoor.
The limited series will reunite the trio of heroes as they reunite to battle a host of villains, including the Hand, across the city of crime. Wolverine and his compatriots know the villainous organizations are seeking a weapon of mass destruction and the trio are the only ones who can stop the evil machinations.
Writer Chris Claremont discussed returning to the story, stating:
“Hard to believe, Bub, I’ve known Logan for 50 years!” Claremont shared. “And Natasha was in the first Marvel story I ever wrote. This trip back to Madripoor reveals hidden truths about two of my favorite characters on the adventure that shaped their lives.”
Along with a detailed synopsis for the limited series, Marvel has shared a first look at Philip Tan’s cover for Wolverine: Madripoor Knights #1.
