Marvel revealed the first details about Greg Capullo’s return to interior pages at Marvel with the upcoming limited series, Wolverine: Revenge. Unveiled to Polygon earlier today, the series joins Capullo with writer Jonathan Hickman for a bloody time as the character celebrates his 50th anniversary of publishing. Just like Blood Hunt, Marvel is also releasing Red Band versions of each issue starting in August, promising even more carnage and vengeance in every installment.
In the article from Polygon, Capullo spoke about returning to Marvel, stating:
“I’ve finally returned home to Marvel, and I’m ready to raise some Hell. And, who better to do that with than the Hitman Hickman? To celebrate, Marvel has removed the fences and let us off our leash so that we can bring the most vicious and punishing Wolverine story possible to the fans this summer. I hope they’re prepared.”
The issue marks the second instance of issuing a Red Band for content, and also works as Hickman’s first foray back into the mutant-adjacent world after leaving the X-Line post-Inferno. Based on the issue synopsis, there seems to be little connection to the wider Marvel universe beyond a cadre of Wolverine foes like Sabretooth and Omega Red.
Hickman spoke about the freedom given by edition with the Red Band label, stating:
“Well, obviously it’s such a privilege to get to work with a legend like Greg. When we first talked about the project, our number one concern was taking the readers on a high-octane, no-hold-barred Wolverine story that was a proper celebration of both the character and Greg returning to Marvel. And like he said, the bosses cut us loose and the result is an absolutely wild book. Honestly can’t wait for everyone to get to check it out.”
