Marvel Confirms Hiring Writer for Black Widow Film!

Black Widow feature film starring Scarlett Johansson is in early development at Marvel Studios with the hiring of screenwriter Jac Schaeffer, according to numerous sources, which comes as no surprise as increasing female comic heroes & antiheroes are getting their own films!

Framed as “very early” with no official “green light” from studio, work on a Black Widow film reportedly began with studio president Kevin Feige interviewing writer candidates and consulting with Johansson, who has played in the role of the Widow, Natalia/Natasha Romanova, across six films since 2010 with two more, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 already slated for release in 2018!

Schaeffer is best-known for his work with Anne Hathaway who approached Schaeffer to write her planned Dirty Rotten Scoundrels female-centric remake, Nasty Women.  Schaeffer also wrote the recent Olaf’s Frozen Adventure short which premiered in front of Pixar’s Coco.

Marvel Studios has openly discussed a possible Black Widow film since September 2010, with Feige saying at an Iron Man 2 press conference that Avengers would have to come first.  In 2014, Feige said development work for a solo film had been done in an effort to continue the character’s flashback scenes in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
