Marvel Comics unveiled its answer to DC’s Compact Comics with the Marvel Premier Collection. Launching in 2025, these collections will reprint seminal Marvel storylines, offering an affordable foothold into the House of Ideas. Priced at $14.99 (which is $5 more than the Distinguished Competition’s respective collections), the collections come in a 6” x 9” size, which is smaller than a typical trade but a few inches larger than the standard manga volume.
Marvel Comics and Franchise President Dan Buckley discussed why the stories for this first run of collections were selected, stating:
“We’ve all heard the age-old questions: ‘Where do I start? What is that one run you just cannot miss? What should I read before or after the next big movie or television show to have the best experience?’ The Marvel Premier Collection program is our answer to each of those questions. Comics are at the heart of everything we do at Marvel, so this collection will be our go-to publishing line for any and all fans looking for a way into—or further into—the Marvel Universe. These titles will not be the only place to start of course, but they will be one of the best.”
Signaling some connection with the MCU, the first collection to be published will be Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s Daredevil: Born Again, which arrives on shelves in February. The transcendent story brought the Man Without Fear to his lowest point before setting up his next chapter. Included in the collection will be a new foreword written by Miller and an afterword written by Daredevil actor Charlie Cox.
After Born Again, Marvel’s next three collections will be Ta-Nehisi Coates, Brian Stelfreeze, and Chris Sprouse’s Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet, Captain America: Winter Soldier by Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting, and Fantastic Four: Solve Everything from Jonathan Hickman, Dale Eaglesham, Neil Edwards, and Steve Epting.
