Marvel revealed the next steps for its first family with a relaunch of Fantastic Four this July. Just in time for the superteam’s first MCU movie, current Fantastic Four and One World Under Doom writer Ryan North is joined by artist Humberto Ramos for the new #1. The team will be thrown through time during a fight with current sorcerer supreme Doctor Doom.
In the announcement article in The Hollywood Reporter, North discussed a new aspect of the team, stating:
“People often think of the FF in terms of family, and they’re not wrong, but I think there’s something really beautiful about friendship too, and we get to see that with these characters. It’s high-concept science fiction with real emotion. What’s not to like?”
North’s current run will end in June with issue #33 before launching the new volume with an oversized story. The Fantastic Four’s new status quo will see each member thrown to a different point in history, requiring the team to survive the circumstances to find the Forever Stone. Ramos’s cover for issue #1, which can be seen below, teases the backdrop for each team member.
Ramos spoke about illustrating the storied superteam, stating:
“I’ve been lucky to illustrate many of the most iconic superheroes in the universe, but this book felt different from the start. The weight of history and legacy of these characters lay upon your shoulders, no matter who you are or how you’ve worked in this industry.”
