The streets of Marvel are ready to explode, as revealed during the Marvel: Next Big Thing panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The panel revealed info about the upcoming Timeless one-shot, the Fall of X, and the next sprawling Marvel event, Gang War. The book spins out of Amazing Spider-Man and will unite street level characters new and old as the New York crime families and costume villains duke it out for control of the city.
Gang War starts in Amazing Spider-Man #37 this November, before spilling out a series of new miniseries and tie-ins. These include Luke Cage: Gang War, Spider-Woman, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, and more. The larger strokes of the event will see Spider-Man leading the heroes to war against super-crime and defeat all the major players within 48 hours. The presser also teases a conflict with NYC Mayor Luke Cage, caught between the will of the heroes and the anti-vigilante laws still in effect for the city.
This announcement ties directly into other recent events at Marvel, like the return of She-Hulk’s solo title, and the reappearance of Hobgoblin in Miles Morales: Spider-Man. It also confirms that Elektra will continue to wear the Daredevil costume as Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto bring their run to an end later this month. Even Rek-Rap returns again, after his brief appearances in Amazing Spider-Man since the end of Dark Web.
