NEWS WATCH: Matthew Vaughn to Reboot Kick-Ass and Expand Kingsman with New Studio.

Matthew Vaughn takes over the universe with new studio that promises Millar world building reboots, sequels, and spin-offs!

Matthew Vaughn, one of the go-to director for superhero movies for over a decade who is also the producer and writer of such films as Layer Cake, Harry Brown, and fan favorite Snatch has a production company called Marv, that’s going to make a big change.

Now he’s setting up Marv Studios “the modern version of what a studio can be,” Vaughn describes in an interview with Empire, and he already has an ambitious plan for the rollout. His plans start with a reboot “We’re going to reboot Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl,” and “Look what Mark Millar is doing with the comic for clues.” Vaughn said in his recent interview with Empire magazine. Very little is know on what changes he hope to bring to the film but with a clue like “The ‘70s lead was a man in touch with his feelings, the ‘80s leads were hard-bodied and one-dimensional, the ‘90s leads were animated funnymen, and the [2000s] leads were nerds… Patience is the very capable grownup we admire and want to be in this decade. I hadn’t even realized it until I’d written it, as these things are very subconscious, but the nerdy Dave just feels wrong for now, and the very effective, meticulous Patience just feels right. It would be boring seeing a teenage superhero just screwing up again. Seeing someone who’s really good at this and wearing that costume is actually really exciting and gives the comic a really different flavor” Mark Millar stated in a February interview with Entertainment Weekly. The character Patience Lee who is a female African American vigilante might be coming to the big screen with a rumor of Tessa Thomson playing being singled out for the part. This with a possible Hit-Girl solo film also in discussion, it’s an exciting time to be a Kick-Ass fan.

Fans also get a promise of a Kingsman trilogy “the conclusion of the Harry Hart-Eggsy relationship,” said Vaughn, also a spin-off called Kingsman; The Great Game will explore the ultra-secret spy outfit in the early 1900s, also confirmed by Vaughn in his interview with Empire both films will shoot back to back. If that wasn’t enough an 8 hour TV show and a Statesman film following the world of the American agents played by Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges and Halle Berry is in the works. And finally, Marv studios will co-produce an Elton John biopic called “Rocketman” with Paramount starring Taron Egerton and directed by Dexter Fletcher. Vaughn concluded his interview proudly stating that the film will be “the first R-rated musical”, with “drugs, sex, and rock”n” roll.” It seems Vaughn universe is about to have a very big bang.
