MORPHIN TIME TUESDAY #2: The Legend has Returned

It's Tuesday? I think you mean it's #MorphinTimeTuesday! Welcome back for our second edition of our deep dive into all things #PowerRangers and it's great fandom! We discuss the new Power Rangers #1, LEGEND OF THE WHITE DRAGON & so much more!

Welcome back Rangers to the second edition of MORPHIN TIME TUESDAY!

After our extensive inaugural edition last week covering everything from the live-action reboot news with director Jonathan Entwistle as well as writer Bryan Edward Hill to the release of the exciting first issue of Mighty Morphin from BOOM! Studios, I am excited to follow up with some of the biggest fan oriented news. Before we get into things like the new Legend of the White Dragon with none other than THE Green Ranger (and so much more) Jason David Frank, let’s now forget about the release of Power Rangers #1!

BOOM! Studios has done a fantastic job of revitalizing the franchise with fresh ideas and solid execution, thanks in no small part to current writer Ryan Parrott. The entire creative team once again pulls off a stunning entry in the franchise with the release of Power Rangers #1, focusing on the powerful Omega Rangers as they prepare to face the coming Empyreals. As a follow up to the previous week’s Mighty Morphin #1, it’s a stellar comic. It has the connective tissue necessary to emphasize the importance of reading both of these series but excels from the freedom afforded by an entire comic focusing on Jason, Zack and Trini’s new roles. Power Rangers #1 doesn’t focus on the mystery surrounding the new Green Ranger simply because there is so much at stake with the danger surrounding the Empyreals. So much so, the Omega Rangers are forced to seek help from the one person who Zordon refuses to allow out of containment, Lord Drakkon! To say it’s an epic and action-packed great time is an understatement.

It’s not a perfect book, as new readers who pick up Power Rangers #1 from their LCS might not be caught up to speed with everything going on like why the original MMPR members are now the Omega Rangers, why Lord Drakkon is imprisoned and who the Empyreals really are, but it does have a way of catching readers up by the end of the issue. Both Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers together make for a great entry point for new readers but take this as a forewarning, you WILL want to go back and read all 55 issues of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers afterwards. It’s seriously that good. Our review at Comic Watch came in at a 9.3/10 saying it “is a truly enjoyable experience that delivers sincere characterizations and high-stakes excitement with superb artwork.” Read the full review here!

There is a lot to be excited for just in an “official” capacity for Power Rangers, but many longtime fans know there is so much more out there to sink your teeth into. One of the most thrilling new projects right now is from Jason David Frank and the LEGEND OF THE WHITE DRAGON. The Kickstarter for the project raised enough money to allow for a full length feature film and it is gearing up with some incredible new developments like casting, artwork, and costume reveals. If JDF is involved to this extent, you know it’s going to be awesome. Plus there is a comic in the works with some very familiar names attached you won’t want to miss! See below for the official description and a look at the Kickstarter video that helped to push it over half a million dollars to bring the project to life!

THE LEGEND HAS RETURNED

In the Aftermath, the city was left decimated. A past reminder of the great battle and fall of heroes. The heroes were blamed, stripped of their titles and hunted. But as evil once again threatens to return they must rise from the ashes with the power of the White Dragon.

Our friends over at #RangerNation have also been busy bringing us more content to dive into as well, this time with an interview of their own featuring none other than Ryan Parrott! He’s been very busy promoting the two new series he is writing, and the latest episode of Ranger Command doesn’t hold anything back. Beware, there are MASSIVE SPOILERS in this episode! It’s an episode that no fan will want to miss out on as Ryan delves into both Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers to give insight that will have you eager for more. Check out the full episode here!

The Power Rangers fandom is no stranger to high-quality fan productions, but Nerdbot is looking to up the ante with their second episode of Character Select! After their remarkable first episode featuring the Green Arrow and the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen himself, Daredevil, the team is set to deliver a matchup that takes us back to one of the earliest crossovers of the franchise. Get ready for episode 2 of Character Select from Nerdbot Productions where Jason, the original MMPR Red Ranger will be taking on the leader of TMNT, Leonardo! The episode has already been filmed and is currently in post-production so keep an eye out for its release soon!

Finally, I couldn’t be more excited to showcase this amazing post made by u/liu-psypher in the one and only r/PowerRangers subreddit. Fans of Power Rangers know crossovers happen often, but maybe none as successful as this! It’s time for the Power Rangers to kick back and enjoy some time on the island with Animal Crossing New Horizons in this truly inspiring exhibit featuring some of our favorite Power Rangers, their “zords” and even Rita Repulsa! What a great job!

And that’s all for our second edition of #MightyMorphinTuesday! Remember to follow all these great fandoms from @RangerCommandPH to @nerdbotmedia and of course don’t forget to join the best fan group around at the r/PowerRangers subreddit!

If you have some insight or a fan theory on what’s to come, fan art to share or anything else just use the hashtag #MorphinTimeTuesday on social media and you might be included in a future edition!
