NEWS WATCH; “MULAN” First Look is an Honor to Us All

Disney brings back Mulan with a live action movie and it looks like it has a girl worth fighting for.

Disney just released an image of the live-action adaptation of Mulan and we couldn’t be more excited about it. The image makes a bold statement with the film star Lui Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu, in a gracefully imposing first look.

The 1998 hit Disney movie Mulan is based on the brave story of legendary Chinese woman warrior from the (420–589) period of Chinese history, originally described in the Ballad of Mulan where Hua Mulan takes her aged father’s place in the army. Mulan fought for twelve years and gained high merit, but she refused any reward and retired to her hometown. But rumor has it that this new film will not follow 1998 animated movie or the Ballad of Mulan with no mention if Mushu will appear.

With this new image, Disney announces that production on the film has started in earnest taking place in China and New Zealand. In addition to Lui Yifei, the film will include Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Yoson An, Xana Tang, Jason Scott Lee, and Ron Yuan. Produced by Chris Bender, Jason Reed, and Jake Weiner with executive producers Barrie M. Osborne, Tim Coddington and Bill Kong. Directed by Niki Caro Mulan is slated to be released in theaters March 27, 2020.
