New Image Series, NIGHTS, Strives to be ‘Greatest Toonami Show That Never Existed’

Image announces a new urban fantasy comic, Nights, from writer Wyatt Kennedy and artist Luigi Formisano. The book, which is set to debut in October, follows a world that sees humans and supernatural creatures existing in a distorted USA (this country only has 31 states, not 50). Vince Okonma, the book’s lead, enters the new, twisted world of Florida as he finds a new home with a mercenary cousin and develops a relationship with a self-assured vampire.

The press release describes the series as the intersection of Fright Night and Scott Pilgrim, playing on the fantastical elements of the world and anime storytelling.

Series writer Wyatt Kennedy stated in the announcement:

I basically wanted to make the greatest Toonami show that never existed. There’s so many bizarre genre-bending elements with horror, comedy, action, and romance, but the characters are the true heart of this story. Expect an episodic start to the ‘season’ as it were, but we’re ramping up to tell an incredible near apocalyptic event love story. It genuinely feels like a limitless world and watching it brought to life with such care from one of my best friends, Luigi, Francesco (our colorist), Maria (our Letterer), my fantastic editor Alana Fox, and all the wonderful people at Image has been a dream come true. It’s gonna be a weird one, so buckle up!

Image has also shared a first look at book, which can be seen below:

Nights #1 will be available at comic book shops and digital platforms on Wednesday, October 11.
