Dragon Ball fans are going in a frenzy.
Toei announced from their official website that a new series will take over Dragon Ball Super’s timeslot beginning April 1st. DBS airs Sundays in Japan at 9 am on Fuji TV as part of its “Super Strong 9” block alongside One Piece.
The series that will replace Dragon Ball Super is “Gegege no Kitaro”, the latest adaptation of the classic manga series by Shigeru Mizuki. It is about a young boy named Kitaro and his many adventures with various supernatural beings from Japanese mythology. Gegege no Kitaro was adapted into an anime series in 1968. The latest adaptation is to celebrate the anime’s 50th anniversary.
Miyuki Sawashiro (Fujiko Mine, Lupin III Part 4) will play as the title character Kitaro. Masako Nozawa (Goku, Dragon Ball) will play the role of Kitaro’s father, Medama. Nozawa previously played Kitaro in the 1968 version of the anime. Toshio Furukawa (Piccolo, Dragon Ball) will play the character Nezumi Otoko.
Dragon Ball Super is currently in its Tournament of Power arc, where Goku and his team must win the tournament against warriors from other universes to save their own from erasure. The arc ends in March. Toei announced a new Dragon Ball Super feature film set to air in late 2018.
