NEWS WATCH: 2020 Will Be The Year “2000 AD” Finally Arrives Stateside.

“Best of 2000 AD” mini-series coming next year

Solidifying, if not outright launching the careers of some of the most imaginative creators in comics for the last 40 years the British anthology comic book series 2000 AD will be debuting a 12-issue mini-series hoping to generate new readership coming in April of 2020 titled Best of 2000 AD.

First appearing in 1977 from the minds of Pat Mills and John Wagner 2000 AD quickly took center stage as the premier UK comic because of its often science fiction narrative and ultra-violent illustrations from its then young pool of irreverent creators. Creators such as Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, Neil Gaiman, Mark Millar, Rob Williams, Carlos Ezquerra, Kevin O’Neill, and Grant Morrison brought in a fresh new take on comics with titles like Judge Dredd, Sláine, Rogue Trooper, Zenith, and Tharg’s Future Shock’s.

Best of 2000 AD mini-series will launch with a 100-page issue featuring a 48-page Judge Dredd story and will include three additional series from the history of the title, behind an all-new cover by Jamie McKelvie (The Wicked + The Divine). Future covers will come from Charlie Adlard (The Walking Dead), Erica Henderson (The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl) and Becky Cloonan (Gotham Academy, Doom Patrol), amongst other artists, and the entire series will be designed by Tom Mueller.

Matt Smith editor of the main 2000 AD title, said Wednesday in a statement, “There are very few comics that have had — and continue to have — the impact of 2000 AD.” and continued to say “But we often hear, ‘Where do I start reading?’ With the Best of 2000 AD, that question has a brand-new answer — accessible, contemporary, high-quality storytelling, available every month direct from your local comic book store. There’s never been a better way to discover some of the best modern comics.”
