Marvel announces a new ongoing series for Cosmic Ghost Rider, coming from writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Juann Cabal. The reveal came from an exclusive on Polygon, confirming the first issue launches March 1, 2023.
The character, created by Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw back in 2018, comes from a dark future where Frank Castle makes deals with Galactus and Mephisto after Thanos conquers the universe. His first appearance was in Thanos #13 from 2018, and then spun into his own solo series. The character then got a second solo title, Cosmic Ghost Rider Destroys Marvel History, which featured writing from comedian Paul Scheer and Nick Giovannetti.
“I love the humor and absurdity of Cosmic Ghost Rider, and because he’s a newer character I feel like there’s lots of potential space (pun intended) to push him in new directions,” Phillips told Polygon. “I’m excited to play with Marvel’s cosmic characters and write something that feels really new for me and for Frank Castle as well.”
A synopsis has been shared along with Valerio Giangiordano’s cover for issue #1:
In a far-flung corner of deep space, Frank Castle has eked out a quiet existence, and his days as Cosmic Ghost Rider are finally behind him. But across the universe, a vicious bounty hunter is leaving a trail of bodies in his wake and his name is…Cosmic Ghost Rider?! When Frank’s peaceful existence is shattered, he must suit up once more and face his most savage enemy yet – himself!
